Get a licence to thrill in the Army

For soldiers who want to get behind the wheel of a car, or drive something much more exciting – like a Warthog all-terrain vehicle or even a Challenger 2 tank – the Army has the perfect answer.

After soldiers have joined the Army and completed basic training they go on to complete specialist training, known as Phase 2.

If there is a chance that their job will involve driving and they don’t already have a licence, the Army will put them on a course to help them get their car licence. It only takes a few days (as long as they pass first time, that is) and soldiers don’t have to worry about lesson fees because they’re covered by the Army.

Once soldiers pass their Phase 2 training they go on to join their specific unit. It is there that soldiers might then go on to learn how to drive a range of specialist vehicles – everything from tanks and tank transporters to support vehicles or ambulances, depending on what part of the Army they have joined.

No matter what vehicles they might need to drive, they will learn how to control and operate them on and off-road, in daylight and at night.
