WARRIOR'S ADDED MUSCLE

It weighs 35 tonnes, has an eight cylinder engine and carries seven soldiers into action. And now, thanks to £1 billion upgrade, the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle is still one of the fastest and most useful vehicles on the modern battlefield.

The Warrior looks like a small tank and is used to transport soldiers. While the main gun is used to defend against enemy, soldiers can burst out of the main door at the back and storm enemy positions. It’s been in service with the Army for over 20 years.

The Warrior’s main gun will be replaced with a powerful 40mm cannon which can be fired while the Warrior is on the move. The turret where the gun is mounted will be made even tougher and will be packed with state of the art electronics. The main body will be given extra armour to keep the soldiers inside more protected.

Experts predict that the makeover will keep the Warrior in service until 2040, giving it an extra 25 years of service.

“Wherever the Army deploys, our Infantry will depend on its superior protection, mobility and lethality. This will be a battle-winner,” said General Sir Peter Wall, the head of the British Army.
