Captain Whatnell AAC

Captain Paul Whatnell AACCaptain Paul Whatnell joined the British Army in April 2005 and a year later commissioned into the Royal Engineers. After completing his Troop Commander training, Paul was posted to 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)) in Wimbish where he was given command of 2 Commando Troop (EOD). Paul went on to be trained as a Bomb Disposal Officer, commanding his Troop in this role on operations in the United Kingdom, Kenya and Iraq.

In January 2009, Paul commenced an attachment with the Army Air Corps (AAC) completing the Army Pilot Course in April 2010 and was subsequently selected for instruction on the Apache aircraft. Since then he has accepted a commission with the AAC, deploying to Afghanistan as Second in Command of the Operation HERRICK Apache Detachment and currently holds the same role in 653 Sqn AAC.

Paul is an avid fan of outdoor pursuits and always keen to try new activities, including kayaking across the English Channel in an inflatable canoe to raise money for charity.
