Overview

6 Regiment Army Air Corps (Volunteers) (6 Regt AAC(V)) was formed on 2 July 2006 at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The Regiment's role is to provide trained ground crew as individual reinforcements capable of deploying on operations and in support of exercises round the world.

The Regiment was initially formed as an attack helicopter ground crew regiment, providing vital attack helicopter support to the regular Army Air Corps regiments at Wattisham. With the emergence of the Wildcat force at Yeovilton the ways of working for 6 Regt AAC(V) will change to encompass this new capability.

Squadrons

The Regiment is based around a Regimental Headquarters (RHQ), two Ground Crew Squadrons and a Support Squadron. The RHQ and Support Squadron are based at Bury St Edmunds with the Squadron Headquarters of 677 (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Squadron - the latter also has Flights located at Norwich, Swaffham and Bury St Edmunds.

655 (Scottish Horse) Squadron (655 AAC (V)) is currently based within the Army Aviation Centre at Middle Wallop. Looking to the future there is an aspiration to create 655 Sqn AAC (V) detachments in some urban areas within reach of Middle Wallop. Furthermore, there is an aspiration to create a new Squadron in Yeovil in support of Wildcat.

This package has been designed to focus on stabilising and revitalising the Reserve Forces. In short, the Territorial Army is valued, is a growth industry and is very much open for business.

Air Manoeuvre Planning Team (Volunteers)

6 Regt AAC (V) also recruits and administers the Air Manoeuvre Planning Team (Volunteers) (AMPT(V)). The AMPT(V) is a pool of 26 suitably qualified and trained officers and senior non-commissioned officers who can be used to augment the Joint Helicopter Command (JHC) AMPT in the role of providing Operational Support and Education to the JHC Forces, Front Line Commands, Permanent Joint Headquarters and United Kingdom emergency services on battlefield helicopter operations and capabilities. They operate very much in a planning and advisory capacity - they are not watchkeepers. AMPT(V) is national so your location is not as important as your experience and your ability to advise on aviation operations. We are recruiting AMPT(V) now.
