Sport & Adventurous Training

Sport and Adventure

Sport for All
Sport in the Army Air Corps is considered an important part of daily life. Unlike other jobs sport is not considered to be just something you do after work, for your own satisfaction, all at your own cost. Sport is included in routine fitness training and Units hold regular sporting events throughout the year such as:

  • Football
  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Basketball
  • Swimming
  • Cross Country Running
  • Tug of War

These events are often played as inter squadron competitions that contribute to points for a Regimental Challenge Cup. Everyone is expected to have a go at something. Often these events identify personnel with talent, who are then encouraged to compete at Army or Combined Service level and some go on to compete at National or Olympic level.

Sport improves physical fitness. It is excellent for team building. It provides a break from the normal work routine. It plays a vital role in mental toughness and building morale. It offers an opportunity to widen your own interests and to meet other people with similar interests. In the Army Air Corps you can have the chance to try sports you may never have considered before such as:

  • Surfing/ windsurfing
  • Hot air ballooning
  • Clay target shooting
  • Ice sports such as luge and skeleton
