HVM exercising on Salisbury Plain

High Velocity Missile (HVM)
Our regiment is equipped with the deadly High Velocity Missile (HVM) System which flies at mach 2, and is mounted on the Stormer armoured vehicle. Our airborne battery of parachute trained soldiers fire from a light weight shoulder launcher, and serve alongside the Parachute Regiment.  Our highly skilled soldiers protect 1 (United Kingdom) Armoured Division from air attack. These same soldiers are also trained to fly the Desert Hawk Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV). This is basically a spy plane, launched by hand. The camera, with an X-Box controller, streams down a real-time, live video image of the battlefield to a rugged laptop.  Our soldiers deliver this support to infantry combat operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Our Batteries
An Air Defence Regiment, we consist of four batteries; 31/Headquarters Battery, 10 (Assaye) Battery, 21 (Gibraltar 1779-83) Battery and 25/170 (Imjin) Battery. Our Regiment has completed successful tours in recent years of Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our Location
We are based on Thorney Island, Hampshire.  Our address is Baker Barracks, Thorney Island, Emsworth, Hampshire, PO10 9DH.
