47 Regt RA
Miniature and Tactical Unmanned Air Systems (MUASs and TUASs)
47th Regiment Royal Artillery are equipped with the Mini Unmanned Air Systems (MUAS), Desert Hawk III, and over the next year will also fly the Tactical Unmanned Air Systems (TUAS).
We are one of two Regiments in the Royal Artillery who provide the British Army's 'eye in the sky' in support of Land Forces on operations. Desert Hawk III is a small man-portable UAS surveillance system which provides essential day and night aerial video reconnaissance.
It has a flight time of approximately one hour and can fly almost anywhere within a 15 km radius of its ground control station usually based on the front line with the Infantry.
The TUAS, has a deep battlefield surveillance capability, which can operate for up to 14 hours with a reach out to 150km. TUAS also beams back real time video footage by day and night.
As a specialised unit, 47th Regiment Royal Artillery trains its soldiers to plan and fly missions, process live video feeds for intelligence gathering purposes, and maintain the DH III equipment.
47th Regiment Royal Artillery soldiers are currently serving on operations in Afghanistan.
