40 Regiment RA

The Strategic Defence Spending Review (SDSR) directed that there should be a reduction in the Army's heavy artillery (AS90), although there should be an increase in the numbers of lighter artillery (Light Gun).  As part of the diminution in heavy artillery, a decision has been made to place 40th Regiment into suspended animation.  This process will take place gradually to ensure all military personnel are managed properly and that their careers are able to continue in other Royal Artillery Regiments.

In June 2012, it is hoped to hold a parade in Edinburgh to celebrate the service and sacrifice of 40th Regiment Royal Artillery, the Regiment will officially be placed in suspended animation in December 2012.

The Royal Artillery has therefore ceased posting personnel into 40th from July 2011, although it is, of course, continuing to actively recruit into all its other units.
