Officer Profile
I attended Radyr Comprehensive School in Radyr. Prior to joining the army I played rugby for Cardiff Harlequins and Merthyr.
At present I am employed as a Battery Operations Officer within 39 Regiment Royal Artillery, stationed near Newcastle Upon Tyne. This is my second post; my initial posting after I had completed my training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst was to an Air Defence Regiment in Germany as a Troop Commander. At this stage l was responsible for a troop of 35 soldiers and enjoyed the challenge immensely. It is a lot of responsibility for someone in their first post. Although daunting; I soon found I was surrounded by plenty of expertise and experience. Now employed as an Operations Officer in a Multiple Launch Rocket System Regiment my main role is the coordination of rocket fire.
As an Army officer life is very busy, yet challenging and rewarding. I never have two days the same and the variation in work alleviates dull patterns. Each stage of my career is enhanced with personal and professional development opportunities. This will continue throughout my entire career as an officer.
Careers highs to this stage includes playing rugby for the British Army in Germany and deployment on Operations to Afghanistan. These demonstrate the continuing work hard; play hard ethos of the British Army today.
