4/73 (Sphinx) Battery

Basic patrols

LOADED WITH OPPORTUNITY - 4/73 (Sphinx)Special Op Battery, The Army's only STA Patrols Unit

Often operating far in advance of friendly forces as small Surveillance and Target Acquisition (STA) Patrols or as 6 man Fire Support Teams (FSTs) in support of recce units and manoeuvre Battlegroups, 4/73 Battery has been involved in every major deployment over the last 20 years.  As a STA Patrol Soldier you could find yourself in a covert Observation Post (OP) calling in Joint Fires, Attack Helicopters or Close Air Support deep within enemy territory.  STA Patrol Soldiers can expect to train and conduct operations all over the world from the dry scorching heat of Afghanistan to the lush jungles of Sub-Saharan Africa and the opportunities for training are as varied as the locations we deploy in!  As a STA Patrol Soldier you may be employed as a Forward Air Controller, patrol medic or as part of a FST to name but a few. You will also receive specialist Survival, Evasion, Resistance & Extraction (SERE) training and may be selected to become a specialist in Jungle Warfare, covert photography or reconnaissance.

4/73 Battery recruit from all across the three services, both regular and territorial, and on completion of the STA Patrols Course successful candidates serve two years with the Battery before returning to their parent unit or applying to transfer.
