"Faithful in war and in peace"
The Artillery has a long history in Worcester, the first unit being raised as a volunteer corps in 1864. The first guns, muzzle loading 32 pounders with smooth bores arrived in 1865 and were received at the new depot under the railway arches in Infirmary Walk.

In 1869, there were sufficient volunteers to establish a second battery in Worcester and these became A and B batteries with the first annual camp being held later that year in Malvern. The Corps mustered in full dress and marched to the camp with the horse-drawn guns. Volunteers had to buy their own uniform for the then princely sum of £5.

Major changes came in 1976 when the battery was re-equipped with Blowpipe missiles and was tasked to provide air cover for the British Army of the Rhine. Blowpipe was in turn replaced by the Javelin missile system.

214 Battery provided a substantial contingent to a composite battery on force protection duties on Op Telic in Iraq, and continues to prepare and send individual soldiers to ongoing operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

The battery moved into a new home in what was Lea and Perrins' (of Worcester Sauce fame) vinegar works. This fine and substantial Victorian building maintains a base for them in the heart of the City, and they look forward to celebrating the 150th anniversary of artillery in Worcester in 2014.
