Employability Skills

The British Army has created a suite of flexible Employability Skills Workshops, specifically developed for students aged 14-19. Our Workshops offer real-life context for learning and development by combining interactive materials, practical activities and presentations. The Employability Skills Workshops deliver a refreshing and stimulating alternative to business-orientated careers education.

Designed to offer flexibility to suit teachers needs; two of the workshops can be delivered in 30 minute blocks.  The third can be delivered in approximately 3 hours. All three can be combined to provide a half day suite of activities.

Flexible Delivery to Suit Your Needs

The Army Careers Advisers (ACAs) are more than happy to cater to your needs for delivery of this resource.

Select "Find a local ACA" below and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

By the end of the session, students should be able to:

  • Describe the skills that employers will look for
  • Identify their current skill level, and how they can improve them in their journey towards employment
  • Give a verbal example of how they have used selected skills
  • Select examples of how they could improve three skills
  • Construct a simple plan of steps they will take.

Skills Spinner

The Spinner has recognised Employability Skills around its circumference.  In the centre of the Spinner is a free rotating arrow.   Working in small groups, one student spins the arrow and challenges another student to give an example of their own use of that skill which is indicated by the arrow.  This will give an insight into the type of questions future employers may ask of them when in an interview.

Employability Skills

Video footage shows soldiers utilising their Employability Skills outside of their work environment. This helps students realise that they already have skills that are required for employment.
