| Description |
These lessons provide simple, practical tools that enable students to identify, set, plan for and achieve goals in any area of learning, life and work.
The activities are based around two simple concepts:
• Your values underpin your thoughts, which in turn shape how you act
• You are more likely to reach your goals if you use a structured approach to help you.
The lessons provide a simple structure that you can use in a range of settings, to focus on personalised goals that will benefit all students.
With these activities, students can:
• Explore their values, attitudes and beliefs
• Challenge those which may prevent them from doing as well as they would like
• Prove to themselves that they are able to succeed
• Focus on a goal and, with the help of others, take practical steps to achieve it
• Record their journey and reflect on their progress and learning along the way.
You can use them to support:
• Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) (explicit links to each skill are included in lesson 3)
• The four capacities in a Curriculum for Excellence (Scotland)
• Every Child Matters outcomes (ECM)
• Personalised Learning and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
• Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL)
• PSHEE / PSE / PSD / Health and Wellbeing
Students can use the tools to succeed in:
• Attendance and behaviour
• Attainment in school subjects
• Extra-curricular activities: sport, music etc.
• Health and wellbeing: diet, activity etc.
The resource includes detailed links for all UK curricula.
