Medical Officer (MO)
An MO is a qualified doctor who can be found providing medical cover to soldiers in a variety of environments around the world.
They provide routine primary healthcare ensuring our soldiers are fit for deployment on operations, immediate first aid and life-saving trauma care to injured soldier on operations, and long-term medical care from the hospital environment.
In addition to providing medical care to soldiers in everyday life and on operations, there is a requirement for the provision of medical cover to sporting events and exercises, and an MO may be required to provide it, covering anything from a skiing competition in France, to an exercise in Belize.
Medical Cadetship
Competition for Medical Cadetships is fierce, and if you are thinking about applying for one, the ideal time for you to contact us here at RAMC Officer Recruiting is during your last year studying for your A Levels, or once you are settled into your first year at University.
The application process can take up to a year and requires you to gain a pass at the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB), and be selected to receive the cadetship by a Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) Arms Selection Board (ASB).
Please note: Those medical students applying after their first year must be aware that there may not be enough time to complete the application process and be selected for a cadetship, or indeed for a place at FY1.
