243 (Wessex) Field Hospital (Volunteers) is a fully functioning 200 bed hospital which is able to deploy anywhere in the world.

It is staffed by dedicated medical professionals from both the Regular Army and NHS who are trained to meet the challenges of providing vital support to the modern British Army.

The aim when mobilised is to provide the highest standards of medical care and treatment for casualties, whatever the environment or the mission.

The unit is equipped and trained to provide a hospital complex complete with an A&E modular department, operating theatres, ITU and wards with a 200 bed capability.

243 Field Hospital has had an association with the Southwest of England since 1907. Its Headquarters are based in Keynsham, Bristol, it also has squadrons and detachments across the region from Gloucester in the north, Portsmouth in the south and Truro in the west.

Our priority is to recruit, train and retain the personnel needed to meet the TA medical services requirements. This means our personnel develop skills and attributes such as teamwork, self confidence, leadership and organisational qualities through training and collaborative working alongside the Regular Army.
