3 Medical Regiment

Ambulance

3 Medical Regiment was formed on the 1st April 2000 and has it's Headquaters based in Catterick.

The Regiment provides close medical support to 3(UK) Division as a part of the Divisional Medical Group, with three deployable medical squadrons and an evacuation squadron.

A(12) Medical Squadron is based down in Swanton Morley and was operational in 2001.

B(16) Medical Squadron (formed from 16 Armoured Field Ambulance) is based in Tidworth. It was raised in 1943 as the first Parachute Field Ambulance, and served in North Africa and at Arnhem.

Later, the Squadron saw active service in Palestine, Malaya, the Falkland Islands and the Persian Gulf.

C(24) Medical Squadron retains the history of 24 Armoured Field Ambulance which was raised in 1914. The origianl 24 Armoured Field Ambulance had a remarkable history in the great war, including the award of the Croix de Guerre with Silver Gilt Star.

The award was made for the evacuation and treatment of 2000 cicilians from St Armand during violent enemy bombardment from 22 -25 October 1918, and is retained by C(24) Medical Squadron today.
