D (Shropshire Yeomanry) Squadron

As a unit of the Royal Armoured Corps, our role is to provide trained crews to support Regular Army operations. Training in your spare time alongside both newly recruited Army Reserve soldiers and ex-Regular Army tank crewmen, you'll learn how to operate as a Light Cavalry crewman - a highly exacting role.

About us

Our soldiers master the skills of Light Cavalry crewman, getting their driving licence for the RWMIK armoured reconnaissance vehicle and firing the Heavy Machine Gun and General Purpose Machine Gun. There is also the opportunity to specialise in the radio skills needed by Squadron Headquarters to run the battle and in medical, chef or stores support roles.

As part of the Royal Yeomanry (RY), the Squadron undertakes a number of interesting and varied training activities throughout the year. From weekend tactical field training in the UK to longer exercises that last for two weeks, often abroad.

In addition, adventurous training, battlefield tours, weapon training and sport and fitness are only a few more of the many training and team building activities that are undertaken.
