B (SWW Yeomanry) Sqn

B Squadron, The Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire Yeomanry is based in Dudley in the West Midlands and recruits from the Black Country, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and all districts of Birmingham.

Our Role

The Squadron provides a deployable light reconnaissance force which can be used in wide range of tasks from peace support through to major combat operations overseas.

Training

We are equipped with the RWMIK Landrover, a highly mobile and lightly armoured weapons platform which carries Heavy and General Purpose Machine Guns. Our soldiers train to crew and fight in these vehicles - Each RWIMK requires a driver, gunner and commander. In addition to this we also employ Combat Medics, HR Specialists and Chefs to support the team.

All members of the unit learn to drive Cat B and Cat C vehicles, being paid to learn to drive as well as having all lessons and tests paid for. Everyone will also learn how to use the communications and weapons systems.

Sports, Social and Adventurous Training

As well as the military training, there are always plenty of other activities to get involved with, such as skiing, cycling, climbing, sailing and football, and you are paid to undertake these activities. We also have many social events throughout the year including parties, formal dinners and family events. Those interested in military history have the opportunity to attend battlefield tours to France. If you are interested in military history then perhaps you would like to attend one of the Battlefield tours to France? We work hard to incorporate variety into the training programme in order to ensure that you become as well trained a soldier as possible.

History

The original Yeomanry County Regiments were raised in 1794 in order to defend against possible invasion from Napoleon's Army and have a very proud and rich history which we continue to commemorate to this day. We fought in the Boer War, First and Second World Wars and in more recent times have mobilised over 50 soldiers to serve with the Regular Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Today D Squadron, Royal Yeomanry continues to carry the flag for our forefather County Regiments. We are the only Army Reserve Royal Armoured Corps Squadron to be based in the West Midlands, mainly covering the Dudley and Birmingham areas.
