The Royal Yeomanry

The Royal Yeomanry is Britain's senior volunteer Royal Armoured Corp regiment - one with a crucial front-line role

The Royal Yeomanry (RY) is the oldest of the four Territorial Army (TA) Yeomanry Regiments within the Royal Armoured Corp. Our job is formation reconnaissance, we go out and look for the enemy, sometimes on foot and sometimes in fighting vehicles. We are experts in detecting and dealing with Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats.

The RY has 5 reconnaissance 'sabre' squadrons based all over the South of England, each of which has upto 90 TA officers and soldiers. Our Regimental Headquarters is based in Croydon with upto 64 TA members doing a wide range of command, technical and support roles. Our Regimental Band has 35 TA musicians and is based in Central London.

Everyone is welcome to get in touch or arrange to come visit us at any time, whether a civilian, or someone with past military experience. We are after men and women, British or Commonwealth citizens, between the ages of 17.5 and 42 to train to do any of the jobs we have on offer. Ex-Regulars and those with professional skills, especially medical, can often join older than this.

With a 200-year history of defending Britiain at home and overseas, including recent service in Iraq and Afghanistan, there has never been a better time to join.
