The Kings Royal Hussars

King's Royal Hussar vehicles on the firing range

A British Armoured Regiment with a long history and great Cavalry traditions. Equipped with the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank and the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked), we are also trained on a variety of other armoured vehicles.

The King's Royal Hussars were formed by the amalgamation of The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own) and the 14th/20th King's Hussars on 4th December 1992.

The Regiment primarily recruits from the counties of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Lancashire, Cumbria and Greater Manchester. If you would like to join the King's Royal Hussars you will find more information by following the Contact Us tab on the left.

Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank

The Regiment is currently stationed in Tidworth, a large garrison town on the edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.  Having returned from operational tours in Iraq and Afghanistan the Regiment spent 2008 training in its primary role as an Armoured Regiment.

Having conducted in-camp training on our computerized training systems we deployed to Castle Martin ranges, in south Wales, to complete our Main Battle Tank firing camp.  Later in the year the Regiment deployed to the British Army Training Unit Suffield, in Alberta, Canada where we were able to practice and develop our tank fighting skills in an exciting and realistic training exercise.

In the early months of 2009 the Regiment went through a training package to prepare us for an operational tour of Iraq. The improved political situation in Iraq saw the tour cancelled. Although disappointing, as the regiment were fully trained and ready to deploy, it has given us a chance to spend a summer in UK.

The Regiment has used this opportunity to continue training in our primary role, we have also conducted adventurous training and will deploy on Salisbury Plain with our tanks before again firing at Castle Martin ranges in September.
