9th/12th Royal Lancers
The 9th/12th Royal Lancers are a formation reconnaissance regiment, currently attached to 7th Armoured Brigade, the famous Desert Rats.
We are the eyes and ears for the Brigade Commander of over 5000 soldiers, operating in advance of the front line to gather information and intelligence on the enemy and environment.
The Regiment is currently based in Hohne, North Germany, only a short drive from Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen.
Current Regiment
The Regiment formed from the amalgamation of two regiments steeped in history, the 9th Queens Royal Lancers and the 12th Royal Lancers, on 11th September 1960.
Since then we have deployed all over the world including Aden, Afghanistan, Belize, Bosnia, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Iraq, Kosovo, Kuwait, Northern Ireland and Saudi Arabia to name but a few.
We have been on operations or major overseas training exercises every year since 1991.
