The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

Scots Dragoon Guards

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards is Scotland's most senior regiment and her only regular cavalry.

Welcome to the landing page of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards - Scotland's Cavalry.  These pages are designed to give you a flavour of life with the regiment, to tell you a little of our history dating back to 1678, our kit and some of the opportunities available.

The regiment is currently based in North Germany, part of the 7th Armoured Brigade - The Desert Rats, and is equipped with the fearsome Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank.

The Regiment has recently deployed to Afghanistan on Operation HERRICK 14 as part of 7th Armoured Brigade,s support to 3 Commando Brigade. SCOTS DG are fielding one squadron on WARTHOG armoured vehicles, one in a dismounted role and a further squadron to train the Afghan National Army, which varied roles prove the adaptability of the Royal Armoured Corps soldier on contemporary operations.

Operation HERRICK 14 is the latest in a long line of operational deployments for the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, and her antecedent regiments. Most recently these include Operation GRANBY in Kuwait and Iraq in 1991, deployments to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo between 1996 and 2001, Operation TELIC in 2003 and subsequently in 2006 and 2009, and a previous deployment on Operation HERRICK also in 2009.

Upon their return, the Regiment will march through cities in Scotland, as part of a homecoming parade, before returning to training on their core vehicle, the CHALLENGER 2 Main Battle Tank, in early 2012.
