First and foremost: 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards

1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (QDG) is the Cavalry Regiment of Wales and the Border Counties (Shropshire, Herefordshire and Cheshire). It is the senior Regiment of the Line in the British Army and has 324 years of distinguished history.

It is one of the most operationally experienced Regiments in the Army having seen action as the reconnaissance force during the First Gulf War in 1990/91, the Second Gulf War in 2003 and in Afghanistan in 2008/09.

The Regiment's role is to operate ahead of the main armoured formations, scouting forward to find the enemy, passing back timely and accurate information and fixing the enemy in place so they can be defeated.

QDG deployed to Afghanistan in October 2008 where its soldiers used the skills of a poacher to gather information on the enemy and engaged in close combat to defeat him. In Afghanistan they used the most modern vehicles, such as the formidable armoured Mastiff and the impressive Jackal patrol vehicle.

QDG soldiers were employed as crewmen (commanders, gunners and drivers) on Scimitar light tanks, Mastiffs and Jackals; snipers, forward air controllers, top gunners using 0.50 inch machine guns and 40mm automatic grenade launchers, Javelin guided missile operators, HGV drivers and even quad-bike riders.
