Regimental Day

The most important day in the Regimental calendar is Balaklava Day, resulting from the action carried out by The 11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars (popularly known as the Charge of The Light Brigade) at Balaklava on 25th October 1854. 

It is celebrated on, or as near to, the 25th October as possible.

Ramnuggur Celebrations

During the Battle of Ramnuggur on 22nd November 1848, The 14th Light Dragoons fought with great valour and bravado, and were victorious in the face of overwhelming odds, despite the death of the Commanding Officer, Sir William Havelock. 

Since all the officers were killed in the action, the anniversary of the battle is celebrated every year in the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess, at which those present drink from the Ramnuggur Cup.

The Emperor

During the Battle of Vittoria in 1813, a patrol of The 14th Light Dragoons captured the French baggage train. 

Amongst the spoils retained by The 14th was King Joseph Bonaparte's chamber pot, thought to have been given to the King by his brother, Emperor Napoleon. 

As custodians of the pot, The Regiment earned the nickname 'The Emperor's Chambermaids.'

Staff Parade

Staff Parade in The Regiment is held at 2150hrs to commemorate the death of Lord Cardigan, who died at that precise time on 28th March 1868. 

Cardigan commanded The Regiment when The 11th Light Dragoons became The 11th Hussars, and commanded the ill-fated Light Brigade at Balaklava.
