Victoria Cross (VC) Winners

The Victoria Cross is the highest award for gallantry awarded to a member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces. The following members of The Regiment have been awarded the Victoria Cross:

  • Cornet Alexander Dunn (11H) - awarded at the Battle of Balaklava on 25th October 1854.
  • Lieutenant James Leith (14H) - awarded at the Battle of Betwa in 1858, one of the engagements fought during the Indian Mutiny.
  • Captain Sir John Millbanke Bt (10H) - awarded during the Second Boer War in 1899.
  • Sergeant Henry Engleheart (10H) - awarded during the Second Boer War in 1899.
  • Major Edward Browne (later Browne-Synge-Hutchinson) (14H) - awarded at Geluk in South Africa during the Second Boer War in 1900.

Regimental Medal

The King's Royal Hussars is one of the only regiments in the Army to award a Regimental medal. It is awarded to any Officer, Warrant Officer, Non-Commissioned Officer or soldier who has contributed to the military efficiency or military honour of The Regiment. 

The award originally belonged to The 14th/20th King's Hussars, and has been retained by The King's Royal Hussars.
