Lance Corporal Navuku
Lcpl Navuku was born in Fiji in 1981 and studied automotive engineering at the Fiji Institute of Technology.
I joined the Army on 23 May 2003 and started training in Catterick as an infantry man. After completing my training I was forced to change Corps due to a back injury. I looked throughout the army net and then saw the lights of the Royal Tanks Regiment.
I took advice from my Platoon Sergeant and changed my corps as it was the best for my career.
I then started training in Bovington during 2004 and got the best student in my signals class. Training to be a tankie took me about four to five months and qualified to be a driver, signaller, heavy vehicle marshall, whilst continued to improve my military skills.
I got into the regiment in April 2005 as a driver in Warminister and then ported to 3 Troop. After 3 months I was then posted to recce troop as a driver. From here I gained a lot of skills and improved my soldering through the help from my seniors.
I was then posted to Honington in 2006, in H squadron for LRT. Again from here I continued to improve my skills by watching and listening and learning from my seniors.
I gained promotion to Lcpl in September 2006. In October I was in Iraq as 2IC on Op TELIC 09 and returned 2007.
In 2008 I volunteered to go back to Afghanistan with the 2 Yorks (who used to be known as the Green Howards). I returned later in 2008 and have since posted to D squadron 5 troop waiting for our training for Afghanistan next year.
