The Household Cavalry and The Royal Armoured Corps

RAC Image Gallery

The 16 Regiments of the Household Cavalry (HCav) and Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) are descendants of the famous Cavalry Regiments who rode into battle on horseback as heavy or light horsemen; and of the Royal Tank Regiment who manned the first tanks during the Great War.

Although today's Regiments might deploy on operations with a wide variety of roles and vehicular platforms, they have 4 core specialist roles:

  • Armoured
  • Formation Reconnaissance
  • Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear
  • Ceremonial

They are also equipped with some of the most formidable fighting vehicles in the world.

The demonstrably multi-tasking RAC soldier and his exceptional battle-proven equipment are a winning combination and make for modern soldiering at its most exciting.
