East Midlands

East Midlands Universities Officer Training Corps (EMUOTC) recruits from the following universities: Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Northampton, Derby, De Montfort, Leicester, Lincoln and Loughborough.

Our mission

East Midlands Universities Officer Training Corps (EMUOTC) aims to develop the leadership potential of selected university students, raising awareness of the Army’s ethos and building interest in its career opportunities in order to secure their commitment, whether as officers or as future leaders in their chosen profession, or to champion the Army in society.

Military training

We train in Nottingham on Wednesday evenings during term time and have five weekends during the academic year. We provide transport to and from your university if you are studing outside of Nottingham.

The training year culminates with a two week training package which includes an extended field exercise, live-firing and inter-platoon competitions.

Challenge yourself on exercise with us; you’ll achieve more than you ever thought you could.

Our structure:

  • 1st year – we'll teach you the skills and techniques of basic soldiering
  • 2nd year – leadership training enabling you to achieve the Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Management Institute
  • 3rd year – put what you’ve learnt into practice and take on a leadership role bringing on the next generation of Officer Cadets

In addition there are a number of supplementary events and courses. These range from insight and competition weekends offered by various arms and services from across the Army, to physical training and instructor qualifications and the chance to attempt All Arms Pre-Parachute Selection (P Company).

Many Officer Cadets choose to complete the Reserve Commissioning Course at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst during their time with us and become an Officer. They will then be responsible for leading up to thirty reservists as part of their own platoon, alongside taking an active role in the delivery of training at EMUOTC.

Adventurous training

There are plenty of incredible opportunities to get involved in adventurous training expeditions and gain recognised qualifications. This year Officer Cadets have been skiing in the Alps, scuba diving in Malta, trekking in Corsica, sailing of the southern coast of England, kayaking in southern France and skydiving in California.

Sport

We have rugby, netball and cross country teams who practice before Wednesday training nights.

They compete against other UOTCs throughout the year and at the inter UOTC Queen’s Cup held at RMA Sandhurst.

The cross country team have an excellent record at the Fleet Half Marathon.

Social events

Every year we have formal events which give Officer Cadets a taste of life in a Regular Army Officers’ Mess and include a Regimental Dinner with many distinguished guests, Christmas Ball and Leavers’ Ball.

There are many less formal events during the year including a Valentines Party and end of exam celebration. After every training night our Mess, which is our own bar, is open for the Officer Cadets to use.

Thinking of joining us?

Being a member of EMUOTC gives you access to an unparalleled array of extra-curricular activities while at university and will ensure your CV stands out from the rest.
