Rachel Byron

Officer Cadet Rachel Byron - 3 Section 2IC, 4 Platoon

I found out about the UOTC when I was in the Air Cadets and when I saw the stand at the Freshers Fair I couldn't resist it.

I joined because I wanted to enhance my CV and make myself as employable as possible after graduation and also because I wanted to try something different whilst at university rather than the usual sports clubs and societies.

I have really enjoyed all the training that I have undergone in the UOTC, but above all I think the opportunity to learn to ski in the Alps and scuba dive in Cyprus have been the highlights.

I have also enjoyed all the challenges that the UOTC throws at you on a regular basis as well as all the socials that goes with it.

I have made lifelong friends and met some amazing people.

I have a full CV packed with substantial and well-recognised qualifications, which I hope employers will be impressed with.

Joining the UOTC has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Without UOTC my time at university would not have been so fulfilling and exciting.

If you are looking to do something a bit different whilst at university, challenge yourself, have a good time and get paid for it, then the UOTC is the place for you.
