CUOTC Recruiting for the 2009/10 Academic Year
If you want to find out more, join us for a curry and a beer at to one of our open evenings . They are held in Norwich on the evening of 28 Sep 09 and in Cambridge on the evening of 08 Oct 09.
Final selection takes place in Norwich on 03 Oct 09 and Cambridge on 10 Oct 09. If you miss both of these weekends, there is a final sweep-up on 24 Oct 09 in Cambridge.
Joining CUOTC involves some work and commitment on your part, but we will guide you through the process.
As long as you have at least 2 years of a degree left to study, be a full time student in our catchment area, and satisfy our medical, fitness, and nationality requirements, we would be delighted to hear from you. Selection boards are held in September/October each year.
Previous military experience is not required to join CUOTC. Volunteers normally sign up for the three years but can resign at anytime for any reason.
Most cadets enjoy the training and the insights they gain into military life so much that they see it through. For many, it also forms the basis of their social life while at university and gives them stability and a supportive group of friends while away from home.
Where else could you gain the following skills, while at university, and be paid to do it:
- Leadership
- Teamwork
- Communication skills
- Physical fitness
- Personal presentation
- Decision making
- Problem solving skills
- Organisation and management skills
In addition to those skills, future employers will highly value the personal attributes we will help you to develop through CUOTC training:
- Flexibility
- Reliability
- Self-confidence
- Initiative
- Loyalty
- Responsibility
- Resilience
The British Army is an Equal Opportunities employer.
Commitment
Studies must come first, so CUOTC training and exercises are structured around the academic calendar.
During the academic term, CUOTC trains on Monday evenings in Norwich and Tuesday evenings in Cambridge and every other weekend.
Most activities take place during the winter and spring terms plus a two-week summer camp, which is scheduled early to allow for other work and leisure commitments.
Having successfully completed basic training, the amount of time cadets commit to TA activities depends on the amount of time that can be spared.
