About Us
Organisation
Cambridge University OTC, one of 19 UOTCs in the UK, is a Territorial Army (TA) Group B training unit formed by the students of the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge) and the University of East Anglia (Norwich).
As a Group B unit, none of the student officer cadets can be mobilised for operations, unlike the rest of the Territorial Army, who are Group A. 2012 sees a unique deployment of CUOTC students for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Corps is based in the TA Centre in Coldham's Lane, Cambridge with a thriving detachment in Norwich.
The Commanding Officer, Adjutant, and Permanent Staff Instructors are all Regular Army and are committed to their full-time role at the OTC.
In addition, the unit draws on all arms of the TA for officers and soldiers to augment the regular staff. Combined, they bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the training of officer cadets.
Cadets are drawn from different universities, and now number over 400 who are actively involved across the widened range of military, adventurous, sporting and outreach activities. Some withdraw for periods of time to concentrate on their studies, which always remains their main priority while at university.
Universities Served
Although Cambridge University OTC is embedded with Cambridge University, it also draws on students from higher education across East Anglia.
