Social events play a key role in the unit's calendar, ranging in formality from fancy dress to mess dress.

The central highlight of the year is the Haldane Dinner, where we celebrate our founder's birthday. It is held in the oldest part of the university and attended by highly notable guests from both university and military circles. Our honorary colonel Sir Malcolm Rifkind is a regular attendee.

Last year, CEUOTC also had the honour of having their royal honorary colonel (the only UOTC to have such a figurehead) HRH The Duke Of Edinburgh in attendance.

Our Scottish heritage also plays a part in our social functions, with a Reels Night and Burns Night Supper providing fantastic entertainment and an excellent turnout.

Other opportunities to socialise include the Fresher's Ball, Halloween party, Leavers' Ball and the Carol Service and Christmas, which sees all the officers donning their aprons to serve their inferiors, much to the Officer Cadets' delight!
