The unit's social programme is another important vehicle in the 3-year leadership development cycle.
Entertainment is key to maintaining morale within the Army and mess life within the Officer Corps is structured in a way that develops manners and networking skills, whilst also encouraging young people to have fun both in new creative ways and ways that respect tradition.
Students are introduced to the requirements and structure of Army Mess life during the first year and sample the benefits; they are then actively encouraged to help organise social activities during their second year and then, in the third year, become part of the Mess Management Committee that:
- Runs the unit bars.
- Organises the social functions.
- Runs the unit shop and maintains the Mess property.
- Conducts the unit's Public Relations activity.
- Produces the biannual unit newsletter and the annual journal.
The regular highlights of the social calendar are:
- Freshers' Welcome
- The Halloween Fancy Dress Party
- The Ladies and Gents evening in Liverpool.
- The Christmas Lunch, Review and Party.
- The MLDP 1 Dinner Night in February
- The Reunion May Ball.
- The Regimental Dinner at Annual Camp.
