Mines Awareness Training - Mixed Anti-Personnel mines.
The United Kingdom Mines Information & Training Centre (UK MITC) is the focal point for Tri-Services Mines Awareness Training.
Sponsored by the Battlefield Engineering Wing at Minley in Surrey it carries out training and provides advice with a view to reducing the risk of landmine casualties to both civilians and military personnel.

Mines Awareness Training
The UK MITC provides Mines Awareness Training (MAT) to all military personnel, supporting governmental organisations and civilian agencies as requested.

Mine Awareness Instructors Course (MAI Cse)
Initially for UK military units the UK MITC conducts a three day Mine Awareness Instructors course (MAI Cse). This course is now open to other countries military personnel, governmental agencies and commercial companies supporting UK military deployments worldwide.

The Personal Minefield Extraction Kit (P-MEK)
3 Commando Brigade was the first UK unit deploying to Afghanistan to be issued the new Personal Minefield Extraction Kit (P-MEK). This new kit provides individuals the training, equipment and confidence to self-extract from a legacy minefield or a mine-strike situation.

UK MITC help Columbia clear its minefields
The landmine problem in Afghanistan and Iraq is a well known threat to the British military. But the country with the highest number of landmine victims in the world is Colombia, where teams from the UK MITC have been passing on their mine clearing experience to the Colombian military.

MITC attends the Field Technical Advisors (FTA) Course
In Aug 08 the warrant officer class 2 (WO2) instructor from UK MITC deployed to the International Mine Action Training Centre (IMATC) in Nairobi, Kenya to attend the Mines Awareness Trust (MAT) Humanitarian Mine Action Field Technical Advisors (FTA) course.
